Map of Sikkim
Welcome Back

The evening of September 18th 2011, Sikkim witnessed nature’s wrath in the form of an earthquake which disrupted the normal life in our state. However, the people of Sikkim showed great resilience in standing together at the time of crisis and therefore worked relentlessly to get things back on track.

We all know Sikkim boasts of being one of the major tourist destinations in India. The event of September 18th had its impact on the tourists visiting our state even though earthquakes are natural phenomenon and therefore the time and place of its occurrence is beyond human predictions. Despite the calamity, Sikkim still promises to mesmerize its people and those visiting with its ever-enchanting Himalayas, rivers, lakes, monasteries and other religious places.

We are all aware of the past natural disasters that have occurred in different parts of the world and instances where they recovered quickly and were able to attract tourist as they used to. Few of the major tourist destinations in the world such as Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Indonesia and Andaman and Nicobar Island (India) were devastated by Tsunami in December 2004. However, these places recuperated within no time and today they are still listed among the top tourist hotspots in the world.

It is still safe to visit most parts of Sikkim except the Northern region where the restoration effort is being carried out steadily and would be open to tourist soon enough for which the communication would be made available accordingly.
